Three Things to Do When Life Feels Like Crap
Regardless of how you feel now, at some point in your recent past, I’m sure you had a day where nothing went right, and everything seemed to go wrong. We call it life!
There’s nothing worse than when life seems like a mess. We have all experienced this moment. Some of us have more than others. You can do three things to avoid getting caught up in life or difficult situations that don’t satisfy you.
1. This, too, should pass. Tomorrow is a brand new day.
Just because things haven’t worked out for you today or the past few days and the world seems to be against you doesn’t mean the rest of your life will be the same. I know life is hard when it’s against you. So maybe the best thing to do is to go home, go to bed early and get a good night’s sleep. A good rest can make all the difference in the world. After all, tomorrow is a brand new day.
2. Remember that you have been through similar situations in the past and survived!
I guarantee you have had a similar day before. Your heart is racing. You are vulnerable to negative consequences. Nothing seemed to be going right. You felt worthless and hopeless. However, realise that you have survived similar experiences.
I’m a big believer in the bell curve of life. On one side of the bell curve are people living their best lives. They are happy and healthy, and life is bright. On the other side of the curve are the people who are having their worst times. Perhaps a death in the family. Not healthy. No money in the bank, no place to live. Life is really scary for them now.
So it’s you or me. Chances are we’re somewhere in between by then. Okay, maybe life seems complicated and things are bad, but it’s not the worst thing that can happen. Some people may have a better life now, while others have admitted that life is worse than you think.
3. What is good in my life?
When life is meaningless, it’s easy to feel stuck and focus on the negative things happening right now, which leads to self-criticism and negative thoughts.
Although it may be difficult, think about what is going well in your life right now. Do you have a cat or a dog? Do they love you unconditionally? Do you have one family member who loves you? If you don’t, what about a friend who cares about you? Do you have your health? Do you have breath in your lungs? It’s amazing when you start writing down all the things you’re grateful for in life. Your problem doesn’t seem as bad as it was a few minutes ago.
Have a bright day. No matter how bad things are right now, remember that tomorrow will be a better day. This, too, should pass.
